WHAT'S ONE STORY OR IMPORTANT ASPECT YOU ALWAYS TELL PEOPLE ABOUT YOUR TIME ABROAD?
I always tell people about the time I was waiting at a bus stop in Seville, and a couple who were tourists from Portugal came up to me for help. They needed to get an Uber back to their hotel, but did not have data on their phones. Meanwhile, this whole interaction was based mainly on physical communication, since they were speaking Portuguese and me, who does not even know Portuguese, was attempting to speak Spanish. At the end of the day, I was able to get them an Uber to their hotel. I always talk about this experience because it reminds me to appreciate these spontaneous moments.
HOW DID YOU ENGAGE WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WHILE ABROAD?
During my time abroad, I felt that I had the most opportunity to engage with the local community during my time at my internship. In a small town next to Seville, called Tomares, my internship involved me teaching English to the students attending the English academy. During my internship, most of my time was spent engaging with the students and other community members that attended the class. Through this, I got to learn more about traditions in Spain, especially in Tomares, and got to share my culture with them.
